Accepting An Offer

Congratulations! Here's what to do next...

  1. Say thank you. The first thing you should say when receiving an offer is "thank you." Try not to seem too overly excited, in case you are weighing other offers.

  2. Get the offer in writing. It is always good to have the offer in writing (e-mail is fine) so that you can refer back to the expectations and terms of the job position.

  3. Determine a deadline. Make sure you have a deadline of when you need to get back to the employer. This is usually about a week after receiving your offer.

  4. Weigh the pros and cons. If you have multiple offers, weigh out the pros and cons of each position on paper. This allows you to prepare yourself for what may occur while on the job.

  5. Clarify expectations. It is very important that you and your employer are on the same page with job duties and expectations, so that you know what you are getting into and you can exceed those expectations.

  6. Set a start date. And don't be late! Your performance on your first day can set the tone for the rest of your time at that company.
